Sostantivi (gruppo 1)
I sostantivi sono le parole che usiamo per identificare una cosa, un essere vivente o un concetto. Questi sono alcuni esempi di sostantivi: libro, bambino, gatto, desiderio.
Tutti i sostantivi italiani sono divisi in tre gruppi:
gruppo 1;
gruppo 2;
sostantivi irregolari.
In questa pagina studiamo i sostantivi che appartengono al gruppo 1.
I sostantivi che appartengono al gruppo 1 sono maschili o femminili. Per ogni genere possiamo decidere di usare il singolare o il plurale.
I sostantivi maschili terminano con la vocale “o” al singolare. Per il plurale sostituiamo la vocale “o” con la vocale “i”.

I sostantivi femminili terminano con la vocale “a” al singolare. Per il plurale sostituiamo la vocale “a” con la vocale “e”.

Dagli esempi possiamo capire che i sostantivi gruppo 1 usano queste vocali per determinare il genere (maschile o femminile) e il numero (singolare o plurale):
-o (maschile, singolare)
-i (maschile, plurale)
-a (femminile, singolare)
-e (femminile, plurale)

Nouns (group 1)
Nouns are the words we use to identify a thing, a living being or a concept. These are some examples of nouns: book, child, cat, wish.
All Italian nouns are divided into three groups:
group 1;
group 2;
irregular nouns.
On this page we study nouns belonging to group 1.
Nouns belonging to group 1 are either masculine or feminine. For each gender we can decide to use the singular or the plural.
Masculine nouns end with the vowel “o” in the singular. For the plural we replace the vowel “o” with the vowel “i”.

Feminine nouns end with the vowel “a” in the singular. For the plural we replace the vowel “a” with the vowel “e”.

From the examples above we can understand that group 1 nouns use the following vowels to determine gender (masculine or feminine) and number (singular or plural):
-o (masculine, singular)
-i (masculine, plural)
-a (feminine, singular)
-e (feminine, plural)
